Little flower in Cinque Terre, Italy

Yes, I am still here. The last week has been super busy so I haven't had time to blog. Even if I did have time I do not have internet at my new place yet so I couldn't. But, the good news is that I signed up at ironworks, an amazing gym in Berkeley. They have internet access, and while I am here blogging I might even try to get in a workout. There is so much I have to write about and I am feeling pretty behind. But, while there is a bit of a hiatus, please let me know if there are any burning questions that I can help you with. I have a few that I still need to get to such as, 'why do you have Tupperware on your flash?'  or 'How do you back up your files?' You have these to look forward to. Also, to come... photos of our new place and of course a backlog of weddings and portrait sessions and more travel photography! Until then, don't give up on me... I am still here.

I was E-flippin-lated when Jess told me that she would be joining us on the Cinque Terre portion of our Italian journey. Jess is my darling friend from Cape Town. She is the frosting on my cup cake. Poor thing, she didn't realize that Charlie and I have a knack for getting stuck. Or maybe she just didn't mind being stuck with us.

This is a shot of Jess and Charlie waiting for a boat that never came. That's right. We were sold tickets on July 9th for a boat that does not even start running until July 30th! Nice. We would have to wait there for three weeks if we wanted to use our tickets. You want to know the best part? The boat was our last option to get to Cinque Terre that day. There was no bus, no train, no taxi... and no boat. When I started suggesting that we look into chartering an airplane Jess decided it would be better to find a hotel for the night and try our luck the next day.

Just a quick post before leaving for Kate and Russell's Wedding for the weekend. Life has gone a little crazy. Charlie is back to South Africa for five weeks and I am staying in the Bay Area to find us a place to live. That's right... we are staying in the Bay Area!!! Charlie decided against going back to school for now and that means I get to stay close to friends, family and of course my lovely clients!!! So much is happening, but it is all good stuff. So this weekend means lots of shooting with a bit of house hunting in between!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine. I know I will!

Do you ever wake up in the morning and just know that it is going to be a bad day? I don't. In fact, most days I wake up convinced that it is going to be a pretty great day. Call me a hopeless optimist, but it is true. If only I had that keen intuition tell me what the future holds, I would have just stayed in bed today.

I am back in California now and I still have a ton of images to get up from the trip, I will keep putting them up, but probably not quite as frequently now. It is time to get back to work! My first wedding is this weekend and I thought I would start getting my gear together while I have a few days to get acclimated. The funny thing is, when I opened my bag I noticed that there was a big empty space where my camera and long lens used to be. My heart just about fell out of my chest.

The story: When we were in Zurich about to board the plane the air hostess made me open my bag and re-arrange things because my gear bag was too heavy. Hmm. I did as she said, I put one camera in my camera backpack and the other I left in the gear bag. Now, I am back in San Francisco and my camera and a few other little things are missing from my bag. That means that at some point between Zurich and San Francisco someone must have gotten into my bag (my carry on bag) and taken out my camera. What a cheeky bugger. I know he (or she) probably didn't realize that that camera is like an extension of arm (and my heart) but still. Punk.

So today, I had to go out and buy a new camera and lens. I know I should be happy about new gear but I am mostly just devastated and a little bit shocked at what it did to my bank account. So, a word to the wise: please please have insurance. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have a lock on your gear bag at all times when traveling. sigh.

Oh Sara! I am so sorry! I would be completely devastated too..what a rotten thing to have happen! I know it's bittersweet being able to buy new gear but under those circumstances a bit tough to enjoy. In any case, I hope you can soon forget the unfairness of it all and move on with new gear and a smile on your face... you'll make up the cost in no time, besides now you have another deduction :) Welcome home!!

It is a rotten thing to happen, I am trying not to let it keep me down for long though. Thank you for your kind words!

Arriving in Naples at 6:30 am was a bit of a shock. We knew that the city would be a bit dirty, but we took on look and jumped on the first train out of there. Next stop: Sorrento.

We decided that after our non-stop tour of Sicily we were ready to stay in one place for a little while. We booked a room for four nights in Sorrento (known for it's lemoncello). We found a lovely little family run bed and breakfast and decided to use it as a base as we explored the Amalfi coast. We spent four days walking through lemon orchards, sipping cafes, walking through bougainvillea covered streets,  and of course watching the world cup. We relaxed, we explored.
